VW issued sunglasses with frames in the shape of the New Beetle logo. These were only distributed to select dealers, so they're quite rare. I also have a blue pair to match Sweetie. Released by VW with the NB logo on the handle. This was a gift issued by VW in 1998. A defect on the battery case, when the cars were just being released, caused a recall. VW offered all kinds of freebies to calm the masses, including car washes and tanks of gas, while they repaired the cars. Then Got a computer, got a New Beetle? What's life with a NB-shaped mouse? For the New Beetle owner, the only thing missing in his/her life, are these lights in the shape of the car! Given out by dealers during the release of the special limited edition colours Reflex and Vapor in 2000. These are trading cards with pictures and facts about the cars. This CD came in a metal case embossed with the New Beetle logo. The CD contains a bunch of rock hits. This press kit was issued in Jan. 1998 when the New Beetle was released. It was given out at the Detroit Auto Show. The brochure has many pages of pictures and text about the car. In the center is an actual Concept toy by Micro Machines. Came out in around 2001 in about 3 colours. This video tape rewinder came out in 1999. From The Sharper Image Company is this New Beetle CD/Radio player! Hidden behind the front bumper is the CD player mechanism. The headlights and taillights are illuminated while the power is on. Speakers are in the wheels. It's an umbrella with each panel being a different shot of the New Beetle. Very large (golf) umbrella with a leather handle. Little push-back racing NBs. About an inch and a half long. I made this up from a Matchbox Drive-In series. This is what a New Beetle would look like at a drive-in theatre, or what you missed in Roswell in 2003! Remote Controlled New Beetles:
This came out in 2002... a 4x4 New Beetle! I won this rare toy on ebay. The toy was a prize in a Cracker Jack contest (see wrapper). I remember seeing the cardboard display in a US Walmart in 2001. This sold in Costco stores in Canada in around 2000. Funny Racer This was released at Xmas 2002. New Bright 1:18 scale New Bright 1:12 scale. Released in Dec. 2002 in the US. Released by VW dealers in 1999, 1:12 scale. Thunder Runner This large 1:10 scale is by Tamiya. The controller and battery pack was sold separately, but I never bought it. This very cool toy came out in 2001. Street Racer I think this came out in 2000 for the preschooler. The ultimate, a tractor-trailer unit loaded with New Beetles! Measures over 2 feet long. Canned Heat by Tyco in 1:24 scale. These are BIG! They came out in 2001 and are 1:6 scale, the largest (so far). Hood and trunk opens, and the interior is pretty nicely detailed. Makes engine sounds, alarm sounds, and lights come on when car is driven. Digi-Q from Japan. This is the smallest RC so far. I found this is a local variety store, but haven't found them again. It's similar to the Rescue RC, but much larger. These came out in 2003 from China... small remote control NBs. One set has an extra NB body and headlights that work.
